New Managers for Russia's Economy

The training programme for young Russian managers is one of the most significant initiatives to promote economic reforms in Russia. It operates under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation. Its goals are strengthening reform processes in companies, facilitating structural changes and economic development in the country's regions.

Some 5,000 young managers annually have been trained between 1998 and 2008. This training aims to create human resources for modern free-market business management and the successful restructuring of companies. At the same time, the programme supports the opening of the Russian economy, in particular acquiring western management know-how and strengthening contacts and economic cooperation with foreign firms. Hundreds of participants in the presidential programme complete internships in western companies every year.

Germany Contributes the Largest Share

At the request of the Russian government, numerous industrial countries and the European Union support this Russian initiative. Germany contributes the most, providing some one-third of all training spots. By the beginning of 2006, already 2,750 Russian managers completed practical training in German companies. The German Ministry of Economics and Technology provided over 29 million Euros in funds for the programme. The German private industry covered costs of over 15 million Euros. German states contributed close to two million Euros.
